OUR LEADERSHIP

Dr. Sandra Scott is the Chief Executive Officer of One Brooklyn Health. 

Dr. Scott has served as Interim CEO since January 2024. Prior to that, she was the Executive Director of Brookdale Hospital Medical Center for nearly three years and Chair of OBH’s Department of Emergency Medicine. In her role at Brookdale, she made history as the hospital’s first woman, physician, and person of color to serve as Executive Director in its 100-year history.

Dr. Scott has also led Brookdale’s efforts to address health equity and Black women’s maternal health issues. Dr. Scott joined U. S. Senator Chuck Schumer to champion the Maternal Health Momnibus Act to address disparities in women’s healthcare.

Today, as the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Scott will continue to oversee the strategic leadership, network management, and financial performance of the hospital network. She works closely with the Board of Trustees and staff to set the long-term vision, oversee day-to-day operations, and ensure that OBH achieves its financial, operational, and strategic goals.

Under Dr. Scott’s leadership, over 7,000 employees provide enhanced access to high-quality medical care, keep their communities healthy through an integrated care system that respects the diversity of their communities, and address the health needs that shape them.

Dr. Scott is a graduate of Louisiana State University and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Boston Medical Center. She also served as the Chief of Service for Emergency Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Chair of Emergency Medicine at Lincoln Medical Center in the South Bronx. Throughout her career, Dr. Scott has worked exclusively in safety-net hospitals such as Kings County and Brookdale. Her priority goal is to serve and uplift communities with health and equity disparities both in the U.S. and abroad.

Arthur Gianelli joins OBH from Mount Sinai Health Systems where he served as Chief Transformation Officer and President for the Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital. Mr. Gianelli has more 25 years of experience in senior leadership roles in complex health systems, including nearly eight years as a health system’s Chief Executive Officer.

As President and Chief Transformation Officer for OBH, Mr. Gianelli is responsible for leading the operational management and cultural environment of the hospital by ensuring the health system is safer, more efficient and accessible to patients. He is also working to direct, restructure, and streamline the health system’s acute, post-acute and ambulatory operations as well as its partnerships with community physicians. Additionally, Mr. Gianelli is developing an operating model for the health system that allows for sustained clinical and operational success.

Mr. Gianelli is a graduate of St. John’s University and Columbia University with a Master of Public Health in Healthcare Management. He also is a graduate of Brown University with a Master of Arts in Political Science along with a Master of Business Administration from Dowling College. Gianelli has been recognized for a robust number of awards and affiliations, including “32 Inspiring Chief Transformation Officers in Healthcare: Becker’s Hospital Review in 2022,” “Award of Distinction: Healthcare Leaders of New York in 2022,” and considered one of the “20 Most Influential Long Islanders: The Long Island Business in 2013.”

Guy Courbois is a dynamic, results-oriented C-Suite Executive who brings the strong combination of financial acumen, deep operations experience and transformation expertise along with a successful track record of strategic growth in for-profit and non-profit organizations.

As Chief Operating Officer & Chief Financial Officer for Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, a member hospital of the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) and the principal healthcare provider for the West Harlem and Morningside Heights communities in New York City, Guy held dual C-Suite positions. He oversaw Vice Presidents and Executive Directors of Finance and Operations, Support and Ancillary Services, Ambulatory Care, Strategy Management, Emergency Management and clinical department administration. He was instrumental in developing the hospital’s core values and patient-centered care initiatives to make MSM the highest rated HCAHPS hospital (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) in MSHS. Guy also was a key member of Mount Sinai International, working with the President and Minister of Health of Guyana to transform the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). He served as Instructor for Mount Sinai Health System’s Nursing Leadership Academy and Black Executive Acceleration Program, and implemented system-wide Administrative Fellowship program for minorities.

This followed his time as Senior Vice President of Executive Operations for NuHealth Corporation in Nassau County, NY, a 1,200-bed healthcare system, where Guy turned a historically poor financially performing safety-net hospital system into a system that achieved surpluses from operations for the first time in the history of the corporation.

Prior to this, Guy held leadership roles in the Office of the County Executive for Nassau County, NY. As Director of County Operations, he was responsible for drafting the county’s annual operating budget, capital budget and Multi-Year Financial and Strategic Plan, and developing and implementing a nationally acclaimed prudent, conservative fiscal and operations management policy that resulted in a historic municipal turnaround. Earlier in his career, Guy was Director of Operations for BTQ Financial, Director of Finance for The Rockefeller University, Senior Budget Analyst for New York University, Senior Policy Analyst for the New York City Office of Management and Budget, and a Division Manager & Business Re-engineering Task Force Manager for First Chicago Trust Co.

Guy earned a Master of Public Health at Columbia University, and a Master of Business Administration (with distinction) and a Bachelor of Business Administration at Hofstra University. He is Lean (Green and Bronze Belts) and FEMA certified, and is a Member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Outside of work, Guy is an avid golfer, skier, and reader of history books.

Dr. Kusum Viswanathan is a distinguished physician-leader and educator with over three decades of dedication to pediatric care and hematology/oncology. As Chief Medical Officer of One Brooklyn Health – Brookdale Hospital Medical Center since 2022, she also serves as Chairperson of the Department of Pediatrics and Director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology across Brookdale, Interfaith, and Kingsbrook Hospitals.

A graduate of the prestigious All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, Dr. Viswanathan completed her pediatric residency and fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology before joining Brookdale’s faculty in 1986. She is board-certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

Her clinical and research focus centers on anemias, bleeding disorders, pediatric cancers, and sickle cell disease. She has led pioneering efforts in newborn screening, patient transition programs, and comprehensive care models for sickle cell patients. Under her leadership, the institution has secured over $4 million in grants from HRSA and New York State to advance sickle cell education, outreach, and transition services.

Dr. Viswanathan is a respected voice in national forums and multi-center clinical trials and has collaborated extensively with advocacy groups and charitable organizations to enhance care and support for patients. She chairs the Bio-Ethics Committee and serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the Make-a-Wish Foundation of New York.

Her accolades include the Brookdale Medal, lifetime achievement awards from the Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patient Network and Candice’s Sickle Cell, and consistent recognition in the Castle Connolly Guide and U.S. News Top Doctors list. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and an active member of the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.

Dr. Viswanathan’s scholarly contributions appear in leading journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Clinical Pediatrics, Archives of Internal Medicine, and the Journal of the National Medical Association.

Dr. Chris Paras is the Deputy Chief Medical Officer at One Brooklyn Health. Dr. Paras also currently serves as the VP of Academic Affairs and Designated Institutional Official for One Brooklyn Health.  The role oversees 16 training programs, with a total of approximately 450 graduate trainees.  For the undergraduate piece, his role manages multiple medical school partners, with continental schools including SUNY Downstate, NYITCOM, and TouroCOM.  Dr. Paras is an Associate Professor of Medicine with extensive teaching experience.

Dr. Paras completed his undergraduate bachelor's degree at New York University, where he double majored in biology and history.  He continued onto NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine for his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.  He subsequently completed his training in internal medicine, a chief resident year, and a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at SUNY Downstate.  He is also boarded in clinical hypertension.

In the role of Interim Executive Director of the Brookdale Campus, Dr. Paras will collaborate with the leadership team in the implementation of high priority initiatives, supporting the Brookdale campus' role within the One Brooklyn Health system.  Dr. Paras is a Brooklyn native and has deep roots in the borough, giving him additional insight and passion about the OBH mission and responsibility to uplift the health and wellness of the people we serve.
