Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program

Welcome to the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program at One Brooklyn Health (OBH), which includes The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center (BUHMC) and Interfaith Medical Center (IMC). Our program is committed to training the next generation of leaders in cardiovascular medicine, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and experience required to excel in patient care, research, and academic medicine.

 

Chair of Cardiology

Dr. Hal Chadow

 

 Dr. Hal Chadow serves as Chair of Cardiology at One Brooklyn Health, is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at SUNY Downstate and leads a system-wide efforts to provide comprehensive, high-quality cardiovascular care. Under Dr. Chadow's leadership, the department integrates inpatient and outpatient services across all campuses, expands access to advanced diagnostics and therapies, and supports education, innovation, and equitable care for our Brooklyn community.

 

 

Program Director

Dr. Moshe Gunsburg

 

  Dr. Moshe Gunsburg serves as the One Brooklyn Health Cardiology Fellowship Program Director, Vice Chair of Cardiology and is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at SUNY Downstate. Dr. Gunsburg supports the strategic development and coordination of cardiovascular services across all campuses and works closely with the Chair to enhance clinical programs, promotes a robust educational experience, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensure delivery of high quality, patient-centered care.

 

 

Associate Program Director

Dr. Ajibola Adedayo

 

Dr. Ajibola Adedayo Serves as the Cardiology Site Director at Interfaith Medical Center and the Associate Program Director of the OBH Cardiology fellowship program. Working closely with the Program Director, he oversees curriculum development, mentorship, and day-to day educational activities to ensure a robust and comprehensive training experience for cardiology fellows. Dr. Adedayo is dedicated to advancing cardiovascular education through hands-on training and mentorship, preparing fellows for excellence in clinical practice and patient care.

Program Structure   

 

Our fellowship program consists of Six Clinical Cardiology fellows, two fellows per year, providing a balanced and immersive training experience. In addition, there is an interventional Cardiology Fellow from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Fellows rotate through a variety of clinical settings, including: 

 

  • Coronary Care Unit (CCU) 

  • Cardiology Consult Service 

  • Electrophysiology (EP) Lab 

  • Heart Failure Clinic and advanced HF rotation 

  • Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory 

  • Non-Invasive Cardiology, including Stress test, Echocardiography ,Nuclear Cardiology and Advanced Cardiac Imaging (Cardiac CT/MRI) 

  • CT surgery 

 

Each rotation is designed to develop clinical expertise and procedural skills, with direct mentorship from faculty members dedicated to fostering both academic and practical excellence. 

Research Opportunities   

 

Fellows are encouraged to engage in impactful research projects under the guidance of our faculty. Opportunities are available in areas such as heart failure, valvular heart disease, interventional cardiology, and electrophysiology. Our program promotes scholarly activity with the goal of contributing to advancements in cardiovascular medicine.   

 

Community Engagement 

One Brooklyn Health is committed to serving our community. Fellows participate in community outreach programs aimed at increasing awareness and prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Current Fellows

 

 

Meena Farid, DO

 

Meena Farid, DO, is a cardiology fellow who completed his internal medicine residency at Richmond University Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, after completing a master’s program at Drexel University and an undergraduate degree at Brown University. During his internal medicine chief resident year at Brookdale, he subsequently served as the attending physician for the outpatient Heart Failure Clinic, managing longitudinal care for a high-risk patient population. 

 

 

Iyad Idries, MD

 

  Iyad Idries, MD, is a cardiology fellow who completed his internal medicine residency at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he also served as chief resident. He earned his medical degree from Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, where he was honored for academic excellence during five of his six years of study. At Brookdale, Dr. Idries was actively involved in the Heart Failure Clinic, providing continuity of care for an underserved population with complex cardiovascular needs. He also participated in multiple research projects and community outreach events focused on cardiovascular health. He remains committed to advancing clinical knowledge and promoting heart health through both patient care and public engagement.
