One Brooklyn Health

Community

OBH recognizes the importance of cross-sector collaboration as key to addressing social determinants of health and community engagement. In addition, Brookdale’s Community Advisory Board, the Coalition to Transform Interfaith and Kingsbrook’s Community Leadership Council are comprised of members of the community, faith leaders, and health partners who are charged with ensuring the voice of their community is represented and convene regularly to provide a community forum for updates on hospital activities and sponsor or publicize community health initiatives that address health disparities. Examples of health disparities in the community served by OBHS include HIV; obesity, diabetes and hypertension; and psychiatric hospitalizations. As such, programs and services offered by OBH respond directly to the unique health care needs of the community. OBH also works collaboratively with community partners and organizations to address the social determinants of health, implementing issues that focus on food insecurity, violence prevention, youth mentorship, and affordable housing to name a few. Additionally, OBH is active in participatory action research (PAR) projects with Central and Northeast Brooklyn residents, to develop community-led research and recommendations to improve community health.

The organization works to help us magnify our efforts in the community by collaborating whenever possible to support critical response services, youth mentorship programs and food insecurity initiatives." - Pastor Gil Monrose, Founding President, 67th Precinct Clergy Council, Pastor, Mt. "It has been such a pleasure working with One Brooklyn Health over the past several years.  We have successfully collaborated and held three events.  The first was a virtual health event streamed on social media.  The other two were annual Breast Health Events at the newly renovated Pierre Toussaint Family Health Center on Utica Avenue.  The staff has been so pleasant to work with.  I look forward to working with One Brooklyn Health on many more collaborative events that positively impact our community".  Lamacca Holmes, Director
